Martin joined CIRCLE as associate professor in July 2011. He is an economist by training and holds PhD degrees in economic policy from the University of Economics in Prague in economics of innovation from the University of Oslo. He worked for five years as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK), University of Oslo. He has participated in a number of research projects funded by the Czech Science Foundation, the Research Council of Norway and the European Commision. Since 2010 he is also affiliated to the Economics Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (CERGE-EI).
Martin has published in the areas of innovation studies, international economics and economic growth. His current research interests include heterogeneity of innovation, geography of innovation, territorial innovation systems and the relationship between innovation and productivity; at both micro and macro levels and multilevel interactions thereof.
